Mysterium is a game that I considered purchasing for a while before I happened upon an auction on TradeMe and managed to win the auction. There are lots of components to this game, lots of little bits and pieces, which unfortunately don't all quite fit perfectly in the box so as to not move around everywhere. Basically, one person plays dead and must communicate to the other players with cards only. The cards give clues as to the who, where and what parts of the crime and you only move up to the next stage when you have correctly guessed which card is yours. Once all the investigators have their three cards, they then get a final, joint clue and must work out who the killer is.

There are a lot of bits that add to the game and limit the number of turns you can have and so on, but for my family and I, we felt that at the moment those things aren't needed to be able to enjoy the game. What I really like are the cards. it did make me think of Dixit in that aspect, and as such the clues don't always feel like they fit quite right (which can be frustrating at times, as the ghost, when your available clues would be too far fetched). This is a co-op game, though, so you can gain help by discussing with your fellow investigators as to which card you think your clue pertains to.

We haven't followed the rules strictly yet, but the game has been lots of fun and well enjoyed. I can't see us buying any of the extensions, but we're having fun and everyone wants to be a ghost.
