Review #20071 - Dated: 22nd of October, 2018 Author: shellcruise |
Man has always had a fascination with the sky and we have done everything in our power to be part of it and now they have built a building that is as tall as the heavens. As this amazing building is shown you know that you are watching a big budget film. This building is spectacular from the bottom floors being assigned to shopping to the park in the middle which also has a waterfall. Shooting up the elevator you see it is powered by its own wind turbines and finally the top section will be apartments which are not yet opened to the public. The penthouse overlooks the city and has a section where the floor and walls disappear and you are literally in the sky - incredible. For some reason it is controlled off sight and for some really silly reason it can be controlled by a face recognizer tablet.
Unfortunately, I can't rave about anything else about the movie. The characters, the plot, the acting are very much flawed and even the reasoning behind the arson is just silly. The bad guys stick out like a sore thumb, the way to solve the building issue is revealed within the first ten minutes the only thing which you can't work out is the reasoning why but that is explained half way thru.
Now I love my family, my husband and my girls more than words can say. But would I climb a crane and jump thru the air to land in a broken window millions of miles above the ground to rescue them while the building is on fire - not in a million years. I don't seriously think anyone would. Would I leave one of my children behind while they could of been rescued in like a minute and leave my husband when it is so plausible that we could all be safe together nope not in your nelly, but hey that's Hollywood for you. You could feel the urgency to set up the scenes and you knew that the daughter would be grabbed and you knew that the wife would save the day it is just really bad writing and in no way should or could be taken seriously.
It has a feel of Die Hard but new aged, the only difference was you were routing for Bruce Willis as he was not blatantly in your face declaring that he is the hero. With this movie you are just like well I know he will survive and save the day but lets see how much action we can throw in the mean time. Its not bad for 102 minutes it holds your attention the whole time and I found my heart beating fast a couple of times but that is because I hate heights but I did not find myself caring about any of the characters it felt like they had a job to do and they were just going to do it.
My favourite scene in the whole movie would of been in the deleted scenes and The Rock is asked 'what are we going to do' and he replies 'I don't know call Bruce Willis' and maybe if they had done that it would not of been as bad as it was. Its not the casts fault, its just a pretty bad script - but yet at the same time its still extremely watchable.
