LED seems to be the way to go for lighting these days, once quite expensive, now reasonably priced and these Value brand LED bulbs are certainly cheaper than any other comparable bulb in the marketplace that I've seen at $4.99 a unit. Gone are the days (hopefully) of the customer buying a cheap standard GLS incandescent bulb at less 60c and then being disappointed that it didn't last more than a few months, because my Grandma always said "you get what you pay for" and those nasty bulbs were about as nasty as you can get.

I liked that the box gave me an indication of how many hours (15,000hrs) I could expect to get out of my bulb, which by the way is fantastic, as well as the wattage and lumens. I quickly did the maths in my head and those 15,000hrs added up to 625x24 hour days, wow!

I decided to fit the bulb in my overhead pendant above my bench as these fittings were Edison screw and this lamp was a screw in type too. The bulb was easily fitted and illuminated very well, giving a nice and crisp cool white which was really suitable to the high use working kitchen area and I guess the top half of the lamp being fully enclosed plastic adds to the directional down lighting which made sense to me.

These lamps are very accessible in all Foodstuffs supermarkets and with the sharp pricing of $4.99 is a real saving for a budget conscious shopper who wants a long life energy-efficient lamp.

As a family of five we do use a lot of power and do have a few lights on at night time, one of my children insists on sleeping with the light on, and the other being a teenager seems to be awake at night and sleep during the day so any savings I can make on power bills are gladly accepted. These led bulbs have seemed to make a difference in power costs and my meter shows a reduction in power used and with the bulbs being only $5 that is an investment I am more than happy with. I do remember when energy efficient bulbs were first introduced I could not see past the price at initial purchase regardless of suggested power savings but at this price the decision is definitely more wise.

I used the warm bulb in the bedroom area and decided to use this one in the kitchen, our kitchen is quite a dark area and I do sometimes struggle when making evening meals in the winter when there is not a lot of natural light so this cool white bulb definitely helped provide enough light for me to cook and read packet or recipe instructions with ease. I have poor eyesight and do find the cool/blue led lights quite harsh on my eyes, if I spend too much time in the supermarket I will end up with quite sore eyes so I am happy with this as a working space bulb like the kitchen or study area but the warm white bulbs are my preference for general living areas.

I am impressed with this bulb however for just how much light/brightness it threw out in my otherwise quite poorly lit kitchen and being a bulb that will also save me on my power bills in the long run it would be a fantastic choice for my family and we are looking at changing all our light bulbs over to the led bulbs!

I work on a per-contract basis on roading crews and I'm the guy living in the caravan on-site. I'm there to act as a night-shift emergency guy in case something catches fire, shorts out, or some idiot tries to hotwire one of the loaders or something. This means I need good lighting in my caravan especially during Winter when its darker for longer. Because I had two bulbs to try - a warm and a cool white - I put the warm white down at the bedroom end of the caravan and this one up in the kitchen and dining area. I figured that's the best place to want to be focussed and more awake.

The boss gives me a power budget every week, and if I go over that then my pay gets docked to cover the extra fuel for the generator, so I try really hard to stay just under budget as often as I can. During winter it harder to do because I need the lights on for longer and the budget doesn't really cover the extra so I either go to bed earlier or I take a hit to my pay. I got these bulbs a while ago and just been so busy I haven't had a chance to do the write up until now, but after running them for just over three weeks I took the meter readings to my boss and showed him. He was really impressed at the reductions, so went out and bought enough bulbs to replace every one on the site. He also ran the number after a week and told me to have a paid day off as thanks. The cost of my pay for a day and the bulbs was less than he was going to save in the first 1-2 months just on the generator fuel costs alone. Plus, working the genny less means less wear and tear which adds up to lower maintenance costs.

I love the bulbs, and so does the site manager. That's a win for everyone, so he's told me I am free to test out any gadgets that might be useful any time. Who would have though reviewing stuff could get me extra paid leave, eh?

Having tested a number of LED bulbs over recent years, and knowing a bit about the technology behind them, it was with great delight that I saw an opportunity to get some hands-on time with these bulbs. "Cool White" bulbs are great for aiding concentration, as we have evolved to 'wake up' as the natural light becomes stronger in the blue end of the spectrum, and start to wide down in the evening as the light shifts towards the warmer end of the spectrum ahead of sunset.

Because of that, I fitted this bulb to the desk lamp above the main workstation so that if the natural light started to fade, I could increase the level of illumination without risking making myself drowsy by using the bulb that has been in that fitting for ages - a warm-white twisty CFL bulb. The main reason I opted to test this in a desk lamp though was the ability to test the brightness utilising the LUX meter built into [link^4196^my Logitech solar keyboard^link]. As you can see from the linked image, the difference is very noticeable!

With an increase of 231 lumens (lux) this bulb provides ample extra light for my needs, without drawing anywhere near as much power. This is a huge relief because it not only reduces the power bill, but also the strain on the multiboard and surge suppressor. Both very important factors for a small office with a lot of sensitive, expensive equipment that is deathly allergic to little things such as electric shock and fire.

Overall, taking into account the price and the reasonably sturdy construction, I'm a real fan of these bulbs. While the price has certainly come down in the last few years - from around $70 a bulb to less than a fiver - the quality hasn't suffered. At last, a better way to save on power without sacrificing your ability to see what you are doing!

The Value cool white bayonet cap light bulb we used in our hallway where we have very little natural light so the white light helped to illuminate the entire length with just the 1 light bulb. Past energy saving light bulbs we've used haven't been bright enough for this area, so was pleasantly surprised this one light bulb worked so well.

The simple packaging matches a simple brand. It has made me look on the shelves for it and not dismiss it as an 'off brand' that is no good. It has also made me retry products from this rebranded Value range and not just discount them as not good enough, or not as good as their 'proper' counterparts. The packaging itself isn't ghastly so it is not necessary to hide them out of sight. The boxed light bulb also makes for easy storage when not in use as the boxes are nice and compact without any extra sticking out pieces to get in the way like others.

Although we had not used them for an entire power calendar month, we did see a tiny drop in our power consumption for what was otherwise an average month for us. I can't wait to receive our next bill to compare, and we will be changing all our light bulbs to these Value energy saving LED light bulbs in the near future. Any saving is helpful, and the tiny cost of only $5 per bulb for these light bulbs definitely make it worthwhile. I'll be stocking up on a couple every fortnightly shop so will never be caught without a spare light bulb.

I will admit that growing up I was never really aware of how much power items use and how fast it can add up. I would have a terrible habit of leaving lights on when the sun was shining, or when I would leave the room. However now that I am the one paying for the power I am a lot more aware of these habits, especially in my children. Since moving from one area to another area our price per unit of power went up dramatically and we have started changing to more energy efficient products.

I will admit that when I grabbed the light bulb box from my review box, I was sceptical of how the item would perform due to it being a lower priced item. I didn't need to worry at all as the light bulb is of high quality and performs as well as it should. The bulb was packaged well with a cardboard insert in the bottom of the box to hold it in place. The front of the box is very minimalist but suits the brand. The old saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" springs to mind.

When it was time to install the bulb I chose to replace my current bulb that was in the toilet room. It was easy to fit into the bayonet fitting, and after turning it on for the first time I was pleasantly surprised how bright the light it emitted was. I have already noticed a drop in my power consumption and cost of my daily power usage. I am keen to see how long each bulb lasts for and if it is a reasonable time I will definitely be replacing the rest of my bulbs with these.

Our house has been changed over to all LED bulbs, as we did this over 5 years ago it proved to be a very costly job with LED bulbs back then costing close to $30 each!!! Since then the cost of LED bulbs has dropped remarkably however these still aren't what I would consider cheap with most being just above the $10 mark, I was delighted to see that Value had produced a LED variety which is of an affordable price of $4.99.

As our house is relatively new it is fitted out with Edison Screw light fittings so these are what I requested as my bulbs. The lights were easy to screw into the fittings no problems here with them getting stuck or not screwing in properly, this was very easy to do and they went on very smoothly. The design of the bulb was quite plain, but in saying that I really liked it, as they are of a basic, smooth design it means they make cleaning easy, many bulbs have lot's of fancy patterns and grooves in them which makes them a pain to clean as dust and dirt likes to get into them, however this is not the case with these bulbs (although this is going on my opinion as I have not yet had to try and clean them).

Cool white bulbs are apparently suited for use in areas in which you are going to be working such as in the kitchen, under mirrors or in bathrooms and toilets, they produce more of a yellow coloured light than the warm white bulbs which are more white in colour. I choose to put my bulb in the toilet where there is a single light fitting over a mirror. The amount of light that was produced from this one little bulb was incredible and very bright, from turning this light on I could see that I really needed to clean my mirror!!!

As far as energy ratings go there are pretty good, an 8.5LED is equal to a 60w normal bulb which means that if you were to leave your bulb running continuously it would last 625 days, so almost 2 years which is quite a long time if you think about how quickly a battery runs out if it is left on continuously! This bulb also uses 7x less power than a traditional 60w bulb which is pretty impressive.

As far as LED bulbs go this one is value for money and it produces such a great quality of light, I will most certainly be replacing my current LED bulbs with these in future and recommending these to others. I would love to see a LED bulb suitable for outdoor use on the market from Value in the future.

Over the years we have been replacing our light bulbs with LED ones to save money. All the bulbs we have are much more expensive than the Value one I was given to review. This looks more like the traditional light bulb which mean it doesn't hang down as much as our other bulbs. it also doesn't become a dust collector like our other ones do, which makes me wonder about the fire risk. I much preferred the look of this one, perhaps because is is so much like the bulbs I grew up with.

I have a wall mounted light over the one of the armchairs in the lounge. Because of the position of the light this is the chair I use for reading at night or for the dreaded nit check that we parents of young children have to do regularly. This is where I put my bulb. I found it was perfect for this spot. All the numbers on the box mean nothing to me but I do remember that with the old light bulbs the 100w were for the room and 60w or less was for a lamp so since this bulb is the equivalent of a 60w bulb then it was in the right place.

The bulb is supposed to last 15,000 hours. I haven't tested it but as it only gets occasional use the light fitting will be replaced before the bulb does. This makes it a very affordable bulb and being long lasting also means that less of these bulbs will end up in landfill.I plan to replace my dust collecting LEDs with these value range ones both for aesthetics and as they are cheaper to buy and run.

I installed the bayonet version of this product in my bathroom a few days ago and I am really delighted with the quality of the light, something I had not expected from an LED product. I am in the middle of decorating this room so I need a good quality light to be able to see what I am doing, especially since the ceiling and walls are a deep wine colour. (Who wants a dazzling white bathroom? Boring!)

Previously I had an old 100w lightbulb in place and it was not particularly user friendly. Not only was the light nowhere near as strong as this (presumably less powerful) replacement, but it made working near it at ceiling level quite uncomfortable because of the heat it emitted. This is going to make my life a lot easier, so even though it is early days, I am very satisfied with it.

The packaging is plain but effective, featuring the minimum of information while managing to include all the important specs. The bulbs come in both bayonet and edison screw versions, but my fittings are all bayonet so naturally I chose them to test. However, I assume the output and efficiency would be the same for both versions as they appear to be identical in every other way.

LED bulbs are widely available these days, but the prices still show a huge variation and not all shops have a range of choices. I would go for this brand by preference, partly because the cost is really competitive, and partly because the design would appear to allow for maximum light dissemination. This is really important when visibility matters. Not only is there the immediate issue (the decorating!) but also the ongoing importance of hygiene. Bathrooms are places where germs can easily multiply given the right conditions, and as someone who works during the day, I often find myself doing cleaning chores in the evening when it is already dark. Having a strong, reliable light source means I can see into dark corners and check that they meet my standards of cleanliness.

I am so pleased with this product that I intend to replace the rest of my household bulbs with one of this range - the cool white in living areas and passageways, and the sister product (Warm White) in the bedrooms. It is great to find an everyday product, one which we all use, being produced in such a sensible format. No frills, no fancy added bits, just an honest product that delivers what it promises.
