The new version of Norton Internet Security is truly a must have with any computer you will save yourself a lot of time and money by using this product. When I first started testing the software I was greeted with the normal Norton look and feel. The software looks the same as all the other products like System Works, and Norton Antivirus. The difference in the display is instead of seeing one program’s information all the features of this suite are displayed along with the status for each section. This might sound daunting but let me assure you it is not. This is by far the easiest I have ever set up a firewall ,privacy control, parental control, antivirus and anti spam system. The program is made in such a way that even if you are a beginner you are able to understand the setup instructions and how to use the product with little effort. The biggest difference that you are going to see in this product is that once it is set up you are not going to know about it running. It protects you from intrusions and spyware and viruses, it even isolates ad ware and quarantines it and if it is something that you did not install it gives you the opting to delete it. This is only a few of the features of the software. One thing that the software is highly reliant on is it’s updates, having a dsl connection is a must as it is going to take some time to update the software initially. The reason that the updates are critical is the fact that there are new threats being created all the time and the software is programmed to get the updates it needs every week to give you the full protection that this package can deliver. The thing that impressed me the most was the firewall setup this is normally a process that takes a few days with something that you are going to download free over the internet. In Norton all the legitimate programs are given internet access however this is not where the software stops it also monitors the software for illegitimate access to other files programs and internet access to ensure that your privacy stays yours. A lot of these functions are done with the privacy control that the software has built in and you can set it to the level that you require. The program also learn what you do aand adapt your security settings accordingly. This is the biggest advance I have seen in the software. In stead of doing every thing manually which takes time and effort and sometimes knowhow, it is now done for you trough this package but make no mistake if you are an advanced user please feel free to tell the software what to do this is not a microsoft product and does not assume when you don't want it to. A word on the parental control. This package comes with parental control and it is really easy to setup you can even block certain sites completely. In saying this it is not full proof and by doing a simple Google image search I could see material that is not meant for younger eyes. I would advise parents using this product to go and look at the internet history for a week or a day and block the sites that seem to have access in the parental control section as soon as a site is locked out it is locked out . I would not leave the parental conrol entirely up to the software i would encourage parents to have a look at the internet history in most browsers to see what sites are visited or get a silent monitoring program to monitor ativity. Best yet is to take an active interest in what the computer is used for. Considering all the features that the package has to offer it is truly the best value for money. A must have with any computer. |
