Written by Elizabeth Pulford and illustrated by Jenny Cooper The cover of this illustrated book instantly appeals. Danny and his best friend Rasmas the goat are so perfectly illustrated in their friendship. Its not stated in the book but I guessed that Danny's mother had died at some point and that he was being raised by his grandmother and his father. Very sad but I don't think it really resonated with my Miss five thankfully. Anyway this is basically a story of Danny's dad meeting a new wife and the changes Danny goes though adjusting to his new life with out Rasmas but at the end they are reunited. It is a lovely story with really beautifully illustrated pictures. I loved the illustrations and the concept of the story.

Death and separation and new families are such difficult subjects and even more difficult when they involve children. I felt that this was really delicately and thoughtfully addressed without hiding the fact that it can be tough. Children develop incredible lasting bonds with animals and I love that that thread went through the story.

This is a really lovely book and probably a good one for children facing any of the issues addressed. The book is a really good platform to use for parents wanting to discuss these issues with young children also. I can definitely recommend this book.
