The second book in the personal and moving coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of the First World War. August 1915. Ellie's life has completely changed in the year since war broke out. She's been forced to leave school to work in the factory, and much worse, her family has received devastating news from the trenches. At least she has her best friend Jack. But then Jack runs off to war. Will Ellie ever see him again?

Wherever You Are is the second book in the Ellie's War series. I have not read the first book, Come Home Soon, but I want to read it now having read the sequel. I will also be looking out for the final two books when they are released. Often it is hard reading a series out of order especially when you don't know the characters. I only found I had to concentrate on the characters for the first couple of chapters before it came naturally. I found the book hard to put down and was surprised to find myself at the end so quickly.

This book is about a teenage girl in small town England during World War 1. I felt it really reflected how hard life was for those left at home. Ellie and her mother have to face many challenges as they try to continue with a normal life. Ellie is forced to grow up too soon. It is also a story about friendship and the strain war buts on it.

I found this book quite emotional at times and had tears streaming down my face, which is a tad embarrassing when you are reading in a public place. I challenge anyone to read Ellie's story without being touched by it. Some younger readers might find this too hard to deal with so if you are giving it to them to read be prepared for the emotions and questions.

As New Zealand and Australia celebrate this weekend the centenary of ANZAC Day this is a great book to keep young people aware of the sacrifices everyone made for us all those years ago.I am looking forward to reading more from Ellie's War.
