My kids have been enjoying the EJ10 series, having gotten the first five in the series to review it was only natural to review this sixth book in the series.

Emma Jacks is a ten year old girl who, whilst attending school she is also attending a super secret spy school and learning how to be a god spy. This book takes place just before Christmas, perfect timing for reading as Christmas is just a few short weeks away now, and so it was easy to gain the kids attention for 'CHRISTMAS STORY?!?!?!' I have to say that so far I have enjoyed the series as Emma is a good character who only wants to do her best whilst showing the kids to be fair and kind and my son and my daughter are really enjoying the series.

This is a fun addition to the series, Emma is wanting to go to Christmas Town to see the Giving Tree when she is called to go to Spy School where she finds out she has to go there anyway. She discovers that her new task is to put herself in disguises and make sure that the gifts aren't taken away and of course, stop anyone who is trying to. Another fun book, I'll be awaiting the next in the series.

EJ Spy School Hide and Peek was the first EJ book my daughters (4.5 and 6) and I had read. I had never actually heard of it before so I must have had my head buried in the sand and I soon discovered there were heaps of EJ books out there. My girls were excited by the cover and the title. I don't know if it was the Christmas theme or the idea of solving a mystery (as they are great Scooby Do fans).

The book is only 4 chapters. It is mere 43 pages of large print and pictures on about a third of the pages. This was perfect for my girls' attention span. I read the first 2 chapters in one night and the remaining two chapters the next night. They both sat glued to the book the whole time. I probably could have read it to them all in one sitting. It took about 20 minute total to read aloud from cover to cover. Miss 6 wasn't capable of reading it by herself but I am pleased that we will have this book on our bookshelf as it won't be long until she can. It isn't too long or wordy and she found it very engaging so it is the perfect first chapter book for her.

There was a simple code to solve which Miss 6 found easy and very pleased with herself that she could do it without any help. It started my first letter is in man but not in can. I would have liked to have seen something like this in each chapter to challenge her thinking. The favourite part for Miss 4.5 was all the disguises EJ used.

I am keen for us to get some more EJ Spy School books and will be suggesting to grandparents and Santa that these are great books for a budding reader.
