I spotted this book available to review and was intrigued to have a read as it sounded like it would be right up my alley with it being a bit of a thriller. I realised it was part of a trilogy and I hadn't read the first two books but that aside I really wanted to give it a go. This is part three of a three part series in the Dustland Series of books, I am yet to track down the first wo books but would like to as it may help me to understand some more about this book too. All in all I enjoyed this book it wasn't as juicy as I was expecting it to be being a thriller and all I was expecting that I would be nail biting turning the pages when in fact it was a bit slow paced so I had to read it over a few nights rather than the night or two I would normally read a thriller book in. I kept waiting for it to get better to get more intense but it just didn't happen for me on this occasion. The storyline is quite clever and the author does a great job of creating the scene. I love how she uses very british slang type language you can just see british teens being able to relate to the language used but for Nz teens it may be a bit different. I did find it a rather predictable story line too as there are so many post apocalyptic style books out there these days and they are not something I would normally be very into so that probably reflects on my score also. There were some great twists and turns in the plot in the last chapter or two which did keep you on your toes but for the most part it was quite predictable indeed. Without giving too much of the storyline away there are some real tests in the book with the main character Saba having to test herself when she finds herself drawn to the enemy and when it turns out she may have to marry him to save the ones she loves she has to make decisions that she wasn't expecting. Through this you get to see quite remarkable character development on the part of the authot Moira Young so I commend her on her ability to build an incredible setting and developing a good character. |

Raging star is the third book in Moira Youngs dust Lands series and unfortunately the only one I have read. Because I do know no the history of the series, it is quite possible this has impacted on my overall scoring. I have scored the book for what it is, but feel it is possible my score may have been higher had I have read the first two books, as this would have impacted my understanding of this one. Nethertheless, Raging star is a pretty great read! I confess I felt this story was a bit slow to get going. I like my books to be kind of exciting and fun/interesting quite early on. Much like my movies. I do not like it when it takes ages for things to get going, and as a result I can often be found to skim the pages trying to find the action. If I did not have to review this one I would have done just that, but because I had to review, I read every page lol I will say though, although it was a bit slow in the action department, the book does set an amazingly bright, inventive, and unique landscape in a very very intriguing and imaginative world. The characters are awesome. Some may have been even more awesome if I knew their full history haha Moira Youngs writing style, and her use of slang and rhetoric vocabulary encaptures the story and makes for a fantastic read. The main character has a wonderfully strong woman, and I really appreciated this, as I often find I have to be the strong person in my relationships, whether family, parent, friend. All in all this is a good book. I hope the first two have a lot more action than this one, as the title and book cover lead you to assume you are in for quite an exciting adventure. I would imagine anyone else who has read the first two in the series though, will love this one! And I am pretty sure they will love how it ends too, although perhaps not what fans might expect. I don't know, but all in all it was a good read. |
