As a homeschooling Mum, I'm always on the lookout for good teaching resources... especially ones that will keep a rather fidgety 6yr old interested and sitting still for more than a few minutes. I've tried a few body science books in the past with him, but 5 minutes has usually been his limit, so I was pretty much expecting the same with "Wow! Surprising Facts About the Human Body". Not this time though! 1/3 of the way into the book, and we were already at about half an hour because of all the questions and discussions brought on by the interesting facts that had been covered.

Even I learned quite a bit, although some of them were things I would've been quite happy NOT knowing... like how your nose makes enough snot to fill 2 fizzy cans every single day! And that Ancient Romans and Egyptians were truly disgusting in some ways! Yes, this is a book that will definitely appeal to those who love things that make you go EWWWWWW, which means it's great for boys who are normally right into that kind of thing, and certainly had my Mr6 giggling quite a few times. In some ways, this book makes me think of a junior version of the Horrible Histories and Horrible Science books.

I particularly loved how the facts weren't laid out in typical boring schoolbook fashion, rows and rows of sentences. Instead they lead you through the pictures, scattered all over the page so that it keeps the children constantly interested with turning the book to follow the words. I also loved how there was usually at least one picture that would trail off the edge of the page, so that you'd need to turn it to find the rest.. or a question that requires you to turn the page for the answer.

At $19 for a sturdy hardcover book, I find it quite affordable, and it's definitely a great book to have in the kids' bookcase, one that will probably be pulled out time and time again by kids up to maybe 8yrs. The pictures alone have enough appeal that even babies and toddlers will probably love looking through it, with or without someone else there to read it to them.

What a wonderful hardcover book for kids to learn so much about the human body. The pages of this book scream out to children "come read me", they are bright and inviting to learn so much about the body they have for life. My 4 year old son was the most excited about this book as he is learning about healthy food, healthy body and excerise at the moment so this was great for him to learn more about his body and wants to take it to daycare which he will.

I love that each page has key points in bold black writing and more information in smaller reading print to explain more about muscles or body parts. The pictures are great they are big and bold which makes a child want to read it more as there is not writing covering the whole page which also applies perfect for me when reading it to my children. The conversations we get from reading this book is funny, they like to show me things they can do from the book aswell. "we blink about 20,000 times every day" this prompt for my kids to blink and me to count them, but that didn't last long, they didn't click that 20,000 was such a BIG number.

For a book that has good information about the body I wouldn't mind paying the $19 to get for a gift for another child, its so informative. You can read it over and over again.
