We join Emma Jacks aka EJ10 in her third adventure as a spy.

The cover is nice and bright and cheerful, I just hope to see some less 'girly' colours as my son is a fan of these books as much as my five year old is. I like on the back, that there is a picture that looks like a badge with an image that has to do with just this story, I just wish that it was a little pull out page, instead of on the back, as I think it would be a neat little collection to make with the kids.

The story is nice and simple, there is enough in it to keep my kids curious and wanting to know what is going to happen. I like how big the font is, it's perfect for my six year old as he learns to read, so he can easily spot some words he knows. The pictures are fun and there is a good amount of pictures in relation to the story. I like the introduction of a main protagonist, Shadow, and the name is an easy one for the kids to remember, and a good immediate opposite of Shine.

With two kids enjoying this book, I'm looking forward to the 4th in the series.

Well my Miss Six and Miss Seven loved the first two books in the EJ Spy School Series and have been eagerly awaiting their next installment so they were pretty excited when we were able to review Secret Spy and Puppy Alert. Miss Seven read them in the car on the way home and declared them "fantastic when will there be more?"

I read them to Miss Six and Miss Three at bedtime and they both loved them. There are enough pictures in the book to keep Miss Three interested as there is a black and white illustration on every second page. The font is also quite big so Miss Three can identify letters. Miss Six is able to follow the words as I read them and we can take turns with reading sentences etc which is good. Whilst a lot of the words Miss Six needs help with I like that she is hopefully learning the words with me reading them with her.

The story line is pretty basic with Emma on a mission as she goes through her lessons to learn how to be a real spy. We all really liked how the book explains how Emma is thinking and how Emma has to make the right decision. I.e. at the end EJ knows that a good spy is a secret spy so she can't show off to her friends even though she really wants to. We like how she has to make decisions about what is right and wrong. Emma is a really good role model.

My girls and I really enjoyed this book and went straight to read Puppy Alert so we could find out what Emma does next. I would prefer these books to be under $10 even $9.50 would seem a better price point but this is a great book and I can definitely recommend it. A brilliant series.
