Back in 2002, we launched with a thought: New Zealand needs a better banking alternative - a bank that provides real value for money, that has Kiwi values at heart, and that keeps Kiwi money where it belongs - right here, in New Zealand.

So we set up shop in PostShops throughout the country, putting us in more locations than any other bank in New Zealand literally overnight (without wasting millions on new premises!)

When I came back from America in 2006 I was with BNZ but I decided to change banks after meeting my now husband and he had had such ease with Kiwibank and I liked the look of it, so I made the switch, and yes, it was very very easy to do so.

I've made a few changes over the years, from my husband and I joining our bank accounts, to changing to the $5 monthly fee for everything (except for using other bank ATM's), creating accounts for the children and then switching the account so that we get no fees at all (unless, as previous, we use a different banks ATM, for which we get charged).

Every change that we have made has been done with great ease, we've done changes through the online banking and this was so easy, and I love online banking. One change I've really liked is the app, I can now, if stuck somewhere, quickly turn my internet on and check my balance (without even having to log on) and if need be, transfer money between my accounts or pay a save payee or someone new if need be, all of which makes life out and about so much easier.

I haven't had any major issues with Kiwibank and I'm happy to stick with them.

When I first arrived in New Zealand I had opened an account with another bank, there was no real reason for that decision apart from I needed a bank account and the family had an account with this bank already. The bank was charging huge fees (up to $60 per month) so had a look around at other banks. I decided that I liked Kiwibank as they offer various savings accounts with options on the fees.

I was impressed that the fees can be so low but then there are some things that aren't really too my liking such as the dishonour fee if an AP or direct debit, I have had one or two that was really silly, the amount was for $5 and I was short by about 50 cents and I got charged a $15 fee when it would have made more sense to just pay the $5 AP. What I did like is that if the AP can't be paid the first night then it is tried again on the next business day so you have a chance to change or cancel the payment before getting the fee.

The internet banking is easy to use and log in and you can contact them direct from the net so no need to worry about office hours. The call centre staff can be either friendly or a pain in the butt depending on what you are wanting, I have called in the past to find out why payments haven't been made but then when I have checked my internet banking it showed that the money was available to be told that the transactions are not shown in the order they are processed so that if a payment hasn't been made due to insufficient funds then it means that they payment was processed before the incoming funds were processed but when I look on internet banking the incoming payments are shown first. Tried telling them that it would make more sense to show the transactions in the order they are processed.

The staff at my local branch are always friendly and helpful and often suggest banking options eg kiwisaver and are more than willing to help with my queries.

The kids have accounts with Kiwibank as well, it is linked to my internet banking log in so I can keep track of their savings. I like the no fees on the kids accounts and that I can see how their savings are doing.
