Review #10847 - Dated: 17th of March, 2014 Author: Jopukeko |
Postman Pat has come a long way from the stilted stop motion animation I remember from my childhood. In Special Delivery Service Mission Accomplished he is moving with the times. He is a courier rather than a postman now and has a cellphone, helicopter, GPS and motorbike and his van has a hoist. This doesn't stop Pat and Jess from coming across obstacles that they have to overcome to deliver their package. I am also pleased to see that he is now more of a family man with a wife and son.
My girls (4 and 5.5 years) loved this DVD and watched the whole thing in one sitting on a gloomy Saturday morning. I had to drag them to the table for their pancake breakfast. I had thought that my oldest would be growing out of the preschool cartoons like Postman Pat but although this wouldn't have been her first choice she didn't complain once it was on.
As an adult watching Postman Pat I have to remind myself that it is designed for young children and I should not try and view it with my adult brain. Postman Pat does so many things that are unethical for a postman to do. He opens their mail. In the first episode most of the village have flicked through the new book before it reaches it's destination at the school. If that had happened to my parcel I would be putting in an official complaint. He also tells everyone what package he is delivering and to whom. So much for privacy. Thankfully the children aren't aware of the ethics of the job and they just think that Postman Pat is a good guy that makes sure the mail always gets through on time.
Along with the modern gadgets he now has The production of the show has improved. The animation is now digitally enhanced so that the characters move smoothly and their mouths match the words. This is done in a way that doesn't take away the old style of Postman Pat. The theme song has also changed for the Special Delivery Service era but is as catchy as the original them song. Postman Pat will always be dedicated to his job and will always be a favourite with young kids.
