Welcome to some of our favourite episodes from the 2013 series of Hyundai Country Calendar

Our crews travelled from Southland to Northland and just about everywhere in between to bring you these wonderful rural tales - and we met some amazing people along the way.

In this collection we meet two men with a sense of adventure and a love of the outdoors who use a jet-boat to catch eels in the Buller River, a Hawkes Bay farmer on a crusade to promote New Zealand wool to carpet retailers in the U.S. and the last team of working Clydesdales in Southland. We also meet a modern-day cowboy from Dargaville and a young Canterbury woman who is working towards her skipper's ticket so she can one day take the wheel of her father's fishing-boat.

I totally loved this documentary of the TV series Country Calendar - featuring 12 of the favourite stories from the 2013 series these were all focused on people that making their living from the sea/rivers or land. This DVD features the series that are titled as follows:
  • Shazza's Challenge
  • Just Shorn
  • On the Hoof
  • Slippery Customers
  • The Big Dry
  • Slice of Heaven
  • Pitching In
  • Roaming Free
  • New Hand on the Wheel
  • Nutrition Naturally
  • Horsepower
  • The Good Oil

  • I always remember watching country calendar with both my parents and granny when I was a child and as soon as the music on the DVD came on I was taken right back to then! We also spent a couple of years on a farm milking dairy cows so farming is something I relate to as I have a little bit of experience from when I was younger. In saying that this series did wonders to prove just what I didn't know about our farming industries in New Zealand.

A farm in Kaikoura, Hawkes bay shearers, two horse riders that run a dairy farm in Rotorua, Eel farming in Westport and fishing in can'terbury. This TV series covers it all and includes dairy cows, sheep, dogs, horses, deer, fish, eels and a few others. Wow it really is just jam packed with information and presented in such an interesting and inspiring way.

I really enjoyed watching this not only for what I learnt about the industries and our beautiful country side but also for the people. It is people that make our world and people are so interesting - especially every day folk who are so down to earth and hard working like the people featured in these series. I was also really amazed at the diversity of farming down south. Being born and bred in Northland and having not travelled around much of our country at all I had no idea our farming extended so far down south. Definitely a DVD to hang on for when the kids are older and can teach them more about our country. For now though its on loan to my parents who missed all of the series this year. I love that this DVD can cater to all ages from young to old and in that way is also something all the family can watch together.

Well worth watching and something you can watch over and over again. Fully recommend to others and I am definitely going to keep a better eye out for the series on TV this year! ^:)
