I was given The Boy on the Page to review and it has become Miss 3.5's favourite book. I have read it to her every night at her request. The copy we were given was a hardback and the price reflects that. $30 is more than what I would pay for a children's book but it would be much more affordable as a paperback.

This book is very cleverly written on two levels. The children hear a lovely simple story about a boy that landed on the page and his adventures as a child and growing up. As an adult reading this I get a totally different story about a person pondering what people have been since the dawn of time. Why am I here? Why do I exist? The answer is simply to create and love. This made me feel good about myself.

Having read this book for a week tonight we saw things in the illustrations that none of us had noticed before. I think I missed them because I was busy philosophising but once I pointed out one thing my girls found more. My youngest was giggling at the tree planted in the toilet. For Miss 5 it was the heart shaped plant. We also noticed that the boy as a man still looked the same except for his beard.

I have always believed a good book is one that gets you thinking and it is a rare find in a picture book. Since this is a book where we are continual finding new things and discussing I am more than happy to read it each night. I do think it won't be long until I will just be the lap to cuddle up on to read it though as my girls can read it themselves now with only a few prompts from me.

When looking though products to review my son saw this book and said mummy I want that one. Not sure what caught his eye but prob the colour of the book its a nice blue colour with white writing and the pictures pop out of the background colour.

I liked how the story starts at the front cover before even getting to the title of a black and white boy standing alone...its a very good story with a little boy on a page, he goes though each page one at a time. On the way he makes memories while trying to work out why he is on the page.

The pictures are bright and fun, each picture on the page represents what the words are saying. This helped my 5 year old work out the words for the pages, she tried very hard to read it, as she only just turned five and is only learning to read I have found this is a great book for new words. I have to say this is a lovely book and I recommend it. You have to read it to see where this boy on the page takes you. One awesome journey. The price is a bit high for what I would pay for a book normally but it seems to be worth it as its teaching my kids lots
