This has to be the worst book I have read in a while and I love reading so that is saying a lot. The story was slow to move and totally silly. Who in their right mind would move to another part of a city just to be near a boy that hardly even knows she exists? In some ways I could relate, I was a teenage girl myself but I'm reasonably sure I was never that silly. Brooke is supposed to be a genius but she doesn't like the school system so deliberately does really bad and refuses to do her homework. It is a reminder of why school is important. The ending was a bit unexpected, but that might have been because I had lost the will to read this book and was only reading to the end due to sheer stubbornness. I"m glad in a way that she did finally learn what was important and what she really could do without. I really would never read this book again, even if I was paid to. |

OMG.. what can I say about this book? Firstly who would move to another part of the country for a boy and expect things to just happen and fall into place? Reading this book was painful, I could follow the thinking as I was once a teenager myself but I'm sure if I was ever that stupid someone would have kicked my butt. Brooke follows Scott to New York because she "just knows" that they belong together but problem is that he doesn't know she exists and when they do finally get together she realises that they know nothing about each other and have absolutely nothing in common. She has to make new friends and learn a different way of life and naively thinks she can also keep her old friends and that nothing will change. Her new school challenges her and the teachers are more pushing than at her old school, they don't accept her "rebel attitude". The end was a bit unexpected, she finally realises how much better she could have done at school and how important school is for life training. I would rather poke my eyes out with a hot poker than read this book again. |

This book confuses me, it is loaded with contradictions and I just didn't enjoy the character of Brooke. Brooke is supposedly a genius but the plot of the story revolves around (what I feel is a stupid decision at her age) her moving to a whole new city for a boy. This boy, Scott, is someone that she has had little communication with but feels that he is the one, despite the lack of communication, and so moves where he moves to in an effort for him to get to know her and, of course, fall in love with her too. For a genius I don't think she has much common sense. Brooke quite flippant and also she supposedly doesn't trust people yet this really conflicts with her feeling that Scott is 'the one'. To me it didn't make sense for someone to move to another city, still in high school, for a boy considering the family dynamics and choosing to be alone most of the time (father does a lot of overtime) in the hopes that he will 'come to his senses'. If this had ignored the romance factor, or at least the 'follow an almost stranger to another city in the hopes of love' then I may have enjoyed it better. Brooke doesn't know what she wants to do with her life and I think that is a very common aspect for most people today. It's a nice and light read, good for whiling away a couple of hours, not something that I would read again, nor really enjoyed, but that's more because of the romance aspect of it than anything else. |

I did really enjoy this book it's a lot different from what I would normally read, I tend to go for thrillers/horrors or something with a fantasy type theme to them rather than romantic type novels although I do enjoy a good romance. This book is definitely a romantic novel with Brooke changing her whole life and moving to New York for a boy she has been obsessing over for two years while he hasn't even talked to her before. I don't know that people would be so crazy to go so far to chase after a guy although I am aware that the heart can make you do crazy things the story is a little far fetched. Brooke is still in high school so it was really a huge decision. I liked the character Brooke she was smart, like real smart except she didn't like school or the school system and despite her IQ she had no idea what she wanted to be, so alongside the romance story was the story of Brooke's finding of herself and a major transformation in her character. A lot of the change in Brooke came from a student she began tutoring and soon become friends with. He inspired her to look closer at things and she discovered a lot about what she wanted in life. This was a little bit predictable you could tell he was infactuated with her and although she had moved to New York chasing Scott you could tell that they should end up together and that Scott was not the right guy for her. Of course she was so in love with Scott she couldn't see what was right in front of her. I loved the way it ended, a lot of movies and books I have been into lately have just ended leaving me guessing at whether there will be a sequel and this one definitely concludes leaving you no nagging questions. The ending is a little bit predictable as I mentioned but it is nice to have a story that ends happily. The book overall is quick and easy to read and would suit young teens, there is talk of intimate relations between the characters but it is quite tame. |
