I love the hungry caterpillar so when I saw it on Trade Me for a good deal I got it for the kids to go with their other hungry caterpillar book thinking they could both have their own ones.

As cute as it is, my kids aren't really a fan of this one as much, as the puppet is different from the other books. The thing that is different with this book is that it is just a counting book, going from 1 apple to 5 oranges and then a butterfly. My kids were a little annoyed with me when I read them this book cause it didn't have the beginning like the leaf, eggs then all the other foods like the piece of cake etc.

I can see this being great for very young children like 2 and under who are still learning to count but for my 3 and 4 year old they aren't interested at all, and to be honest I don't like reading it cause it is really just what my kids already know. There would be a better name for the book including the word counting, if this was the case I wouldn't of picked up the book. I do however recommend it for new parents cause it really is quite cute

I love the Hungry Caterpillar original story book with its cool counting story which is great to introduce children to counting and also to different foods. My son received this book as a gift and it too is a real cute book for babies.

In this version the caterpillar is a puppet on each page there are different fruit which you count up to 10 and then the last page he is a butterfly. You put your finger inside the puppet and then you can wriggle him about on the page as you read the book which my son finds hilarious as I make the crunching sound and pretend the caterpillar is eating the apples.

This book is definetly more suited to the under two's as an introduction to counting or as a nice interactive story time session as it isn't a very long book and is just counting without a story to it but still a great book which my son loves to have read to him again and again because he loves the little moving caterpillar.
