In book 3 of the second 39 clues series there are just as many hidden messages, anagrams and codes as there were in the last series. I haven't got around to solving the hidden messages yet but I will soon. The cover was super and the telescope actually looked real. This time Amy and Dan must give the mysterious man Vesper One 'a stale orb' in 4 days. The search of this elusive object leads them to Samarkand, considered the most ancient city in the world. This book is a little shorter than the previous books in the 39 clues series but makes up for it by having more action, near miss and life or death situations. This book is very exciting and makes your brain work as you decode the hidden messages and guess what Vesper One's next move will be. Another thing I like about the 39 clues series is that you learn about history without meaning to and that the story relates to actual events in history. Each book has a pack of 6 cards which unlocks a secret mission and clues when the code is typed into the 39 clues website. This website is a virtual version of the series in which you have to find the 39 clues and help the Cahills defeat the Vespers. This book will be a much read edition to a already flowering series. |

Yet another stunning instalment. This time we are in Samarkand, the second largest city in Uzbekistan, and our daring heroes have more than one bad-guy on their tail. After their art-heist in book one and antics in the Colosseum in book two, they are now on the hunt for an 'orb' or some sort and as always, time is running out. This book led poor Dan even further towards the dark side, but had enough humorous moments to keep it from being too sombre. I love the way that each character is maintaining their distinct voice across the books, despite the different authors, and that they are also growing and changing in response to what they are going through. I feel the books are perhaps a bit shorter and the puzzles a little simpler than in the first series, but the danger seems much closer and more threatening. I appreciate that the authors have allowed their central characters to 'grow up' and deal with different challenges to what they faced in the past, just as the readership will have aged since series one. All in all, a great read. Can't wait for book four! |

Well, I think that this is an excellent book that is just a little bit better than the last one. The cover looked great, the telescope was awesome, it looked like the real thing, and the background was extremely cool! I found the code on the inside of the front cover easy to solve, but the one on the outer cover was hard, the hint on the website says that the first letters of the constellations make a word; but there were only three words, and when I tried to put the first letters together to make the word, none of the combinations made sense! The storyline flowed well, I could feel the adventure, and I actually smiled when I could see all the pieces of evidence come together in my head, and it seems cool how all the books link together in some way, it makes it seem as if it is one giant story that is cut up into chunks and sold separately, yet each book ends with me begging for more! The online mission is cool, but I had to call for backup on two activities, and I am having trouble with another one where I have to make my way through a laser-protected room, but the music and activities are cool nonetheless. I would say that this book is good for kids 9+, there is no bad language, and the book isn't exactly hard to read. The price is good, I think that the book is good enough to be sold under that price. So, yeah, I think that you will love this book, for it is a great one for both kids and adults. Happy reading. |
