Dangerous promises and beguiling threats swirl together in a dozen stories of enchantments, dark and light.

Uncanny and unexpected creatures appear from behind bushes, rise from under the seas, or manifest from seasonal storms to pursue the objects of their attention - with amourous or sinister intent - relentlessly.

Tales of favourite characters from Marr's Wicked Lovely novels mix with accounts of new characters for readers to fall in love with ... or fear.

I chose to review this book because of the title and the really ghostly looking cover photo.

I read this book in a few short days, as it was quite the page turner, and personally I think it's awesome for a short story novella. I would have to say it's the only short story novella that gets five stars from me.

Faery Tales & Nightmares has an easy to read font layout, which I find helpful also to read faster.

There are two short stories that stuck out for me, and one of them is "Winter's Kiss". This story invited me into a winter wonderland and the story quickly revealed to me, in my opinion that Melissa Marr (Author), is a modern day female version of the famous vintage author, Hans Christian Anderson. Marr, writes so finitely and weaves a glorious picture in your mind, taking you to a virtual enchanted tale, that is also full of sadness. It provoked the same emotion as when I read the "Tin Soldier" a long time ago.

Melissa Marr brings the ink words on the pages to life, and I was immediately sucked into the Faery world, and I didn't want reality anymore, her writing is that picturesque.

The other short story I absolutely loved, and this is my top favourite was "Love struck", about the Selchie Menfolk. This was an original story to me, as I have never read anything like this before, and I was actually gutted when this short story ended. I hope Melissa Marr will write a full novel based on "Love struck" as I was hooked on this story. This was mainly because, the Selchie did everything to try and get his mate to feel loved, and he paid for a Moccachino and brought back a big plate selection of sweet bakery treats and other romantic gestures that captured my heart and kept me hopeful that someone in my life is more of a Selchie.

The Wicked Lovely short stories in this novel were very interesting about the faery court and their characters, but I feel because I haven't read the series, I was at a loss as to the storyline. In saying this I have ordered "Wicked Lovely" from my local library so I can read this lovely faery series.

The most scariest and vile nightmarish story was "Flesh for comfort". Oh my goodness if this was turned into a movie, not many viewers could watch this!!! This story haunted me after I read it, and I had to share the tale with my Fiancée. The story was sick, original, my partner loved it and actually so did I, it was totally shock worthy and fun factored.

I love the short stories more than the Wicked Lovely add ins, although that's because of not reading it before.

I recommend this short story novella to any young adult or adult, that has an interest of reading a decent short story book that will have you loving the characters in a short amount of time. That's how epic Melissa Marr writes her work. And already i'm missing the Selchie story!!!!

Now as I read this novella, I have found the following grammatical or punctuation problems (computer error):
- Bottom of page 85 "With a speed. Shouldn't have been possible"....
- Middle of page 163 "and if I'm not able to face Devlin, I need replaced as the Gabriel, so I'm not needing protection" (doesn't sound right)
