This book started off a little bit boring, but as I read it got more and more interesting. The website links were awesome, I think that using books and the world-wide web together are good ways to get today's kids to learn. Now, like some kids, I find it easier to learn from reading the facts, the information just seems to be absorbed by the retinas better than the ears, meaning that it made this book enjoyable. I also found this book good because the human body is one of my favourite topics.

The level of info was rather high, and it was good how each of the pages was laid out so that it wasn't all crammed together, it wasn't sore on the eyes, and the way they used arrows to show which picture belonged to which facts made it easy to navigate each page. There was a good balance of the types of images; there were 3D computer-generated pictures, photos, old pictures, and coloured sketches.

There was more to this book than facts and links, there were also fun activities, extra and outstanding info, and even "Can You Find" boxes that told you to find certain things in one of the pictures, so this is like an encyclopaedia and an activity book rolled into one, that is an AWESOME feature. I think $39.00 is rather pricey, so I'm giving the "Price" and "Value for money" sections a low score, but the price is the only dislike I have towards this book. This encyclopaedia is certainly a good book for kids aged 10+, so you may want to get a copy soon!

This book is aimed at children aged six years and above but I think it is brilliant from about age three up. Being the mum of a child who starts almost every sentence with "Why?" a book like this is fantastic beginners' guide to refer to, to explain everything about our bodies, how they work and how we function with perfect illustrations.

Each topic covers two pages i.e. "cells", "tissues", "making babies" and "medicines" etc. Topics are also separated into five main themes; What makes a human body?, Growing and changing, Food and digestion, The brain and senses and Structure and movement. Each topic has a web address to link into that subject and the pictures are a mixture of very good illustrations and photos.

I like with this book that when your child can read themselves it is a very simple to follow format and is well laid out with clear, concise sentences.

I have been looking for a book like this for a while (to answer the very many "whys"!) so I am excited about being able to use this.

Unfortunately because of the web addresses etc this may well date quickly and there was perhaps not much foresight on page 9 given the book was released in late 2011 that it states "There are more than six billion people on Earth." There are already more than seven billion people so it is a billion people out of date on that score!! But that is the only negative comment I would make about this book.

This is a great book and if you have an inquisitive growing mind in your family or an inquisitive mind to buy a present for this is a great buy.
