It's hard being the only evolved boy in your tribe. Arg does his best to fit in. But nobody really understands him. His mum is bewildered by his desire to wear clothes. His older sister, Hng, is constantly annoyed by his cleverness. I have become a fan of these dinosaur rescue books and the adventures of Arg. My niece likes this series so she brings books to read when she comes to stay...it is no where near my age group of reading but it has me laughing because I think that snot, farts, talking about poo cracks me up all the time!! I think working with under fives has given me a warped sense of humour haha Also having a neanderthal family as the main characters within the book makes all of their actions even funnier because to them this is their way of life. Arg being the main character out of all of them is a hoot with the situations he gets himself into. In this book his big brain figures out what is wrong with a rampaging T-Rex and then he discovers the T-Rex can talk and this starts a whole new adventure. The illustrations in this book are perfectly linked to what is happening in the story and helps younger children to see what is happening within the story...the illustrations are on every page so this also is perfect for children moving on from picture books to more harder books...a good transition book that has action, adventure, funny words, and pictures. My niece enjoys this book and it is aimed right at her age...maybe not gender as she thinks all the snot and poo are gross!! But what young girl doesn't! I recommend this book for a good funny read for anyone of any age. The actual facts about dinosaurs and neanderthals throughout the book are an enjoyable read too. |

My daughter was given this book for her recent birthday. Its by Kyle Mewburn who is quickly becoming one of our most favourite authors. My kid is hugely into dinosaurs and obsessed with the idea of being alive in the time of dinos and what it would be like. So this book really hit the spot with her. Its 5 chapters long, and as she is only 5 it's very much a read to her kinda book at this stage. We did a chapter a night, after her reading homework and that worked out good. The chapters are a nice length, there are still plenty of pictures as well. The illustrations are in black and white, but that doesn't impact on how neat they are. All the creatures and stone age people are drawn so well, cartoony and brought a big smile to my daughter's face. The writing is really good. I was hooked and I'm in my 30s. Mewburn has a way of making you laugh all the way through. There were a few moments though that made me feel a bit ill! There's also all sorts of extras scattered through the book that are amusing to read. Kid's are going to love the toilet humour - it's all farts and bodily fluid. My daughter giggled for ages. And a great sign this book is worthwhile - she is already going through it a third time. I'm looking forward to the book fair at the end of June at school, as I see another title in this series is going to be available. |

Unfortunately I haven't read these books in order. I read 3 first so it was good to read this and understand how Arg and Skeet got to be friends and decided to try to save the dinosaurs from extinction. My favourite part of this book was when Arg thinks on page 62 "It wasn't smart to kill for no reason." The main story is about what happens when a T-rex rampages into town and how Arg with his super sized brain figures out the problem and how to solve it. These books have a lovely underlying theme which, if you can get past the grossness of the poo, ear wax and snot and other grossness related to being a cave boy way back when, can be appreciated by young and old alike. I would think that these books would appeal more to boys age 8 or 9 upwards depending on their reading comprehension. Most pages have illustrations related to the story which are both very icky and very humourous! I wouldn't get this for a sensitive child who doesn't like yukkyness but if the child is into gross and dinosaurs then this is a series to read! |

As an adult reader this book was rather entertaining and humorous. I would recommend it for the teen age group and found it easy to read. It's one of those books that you do have to read to the end just to see what happens. The illustrations were simple and fitted well with the storyline, some stories have randomly placed illustrations that sometimes don't fit with the story on that page or ones before or after but these all fitted fine ^lol The book does have some icky content that some younger readers might not like and for any squeamish readers it may not be appealing. The cover is inviting and appealing, especially for those who go by the cover as to what the story might be like. All and all a good book that will appeal to most boys out there, and possibly some girls too ^:) |

I have to say, for an active (and highly unhygienic) kids book, this wasn't all that bad. The cover was okay, it showed some danger, and was enough to make me start reading. It had an okay start, if it weren't for the fact that there were a lot of cavemen mentioned in the book, I would say that the storyline was normal! I found this book good because I enjoy stuff about dinosaurs, and the fact that this story mentions a talking dinosaur, I just HAD to read the other books in the series! I would recommend not reading this book while eating, it mentions lots of poo and other disgusting stuff, reading the thing made me turn green (that just means a little groggy, I didn't turn bright green or anything, I'm not an alien!). My favourite part was when the main character, Arg, discovered that a T-rex that nearly destroyed Arg's valley because of an itchy back, could actually talk! I think kids 10+ should read this book, I'm 11 years old and I felt groggy, so I don't even want to mention what a 7 year-old would do after reading the story! Other than all the yucky bits, Dinosaur Rescue: T-wreck-asuarus was quite fun to read! I hope anyone who reads this book can manage to do so without puking! Good luck! |
