Il Divo has conquered the world. In just two years since their debut album, the dramatic rise of the international operatic supergroup has been breathtaking in its speed and unparalleled in its success.

The fusion of four exceptional voices, bringing the passion and virtuosity of their classical training to the interpretation of romantic and popular songs, has brought opera into the mainstream and thrilled the world in the process.

diogenes   Review #1783 - Dated: 18th of February, 2007
  Author: diogenes

The choice of music is still somewhat overtly sentimental and romantic; the quality of the recording is as high as ever as is the exceptional performances of each of the singers.

These four exceptional voices have gone from strength to strength, and the confidence in their vocal abilities boils over into their enthusiasm for the music. This will account for their increased popularity amongst the general public, and there appears to be little sign of their popularity waning anytime soon.

There is little to interest the die-hard fans of opera, other than 3 classically trained voices (the fourth is not classically trained, but that is not meant to under estimate the quality and power of his voice); however, it will give the mainstream listener inroads into the world of classically trained voices singing more popular music - Knight in White Satin for example, including some original material - but nothing overtly operatic.

I would like to see these four lads try their hand and exercise their voices in more classical pieces, away from the usual operatic standards, but that is unlikely to happen with Simon Cowell at the help of this new super-group.

This album is sure to be a big seller and will only cement Il Divo's popularity for quite some time yet.
