diogenes   Review #1626 - Dated: 29th of November, 2006
  Author: diogenes

There is no other book quite like Writers' and Artists' Yearbook, and for its 100 year history, there have been few books that have been completely revised every year to contain all up-to-date information that is useful to every writer and every budding writer.

Each edition (and this is no exception) contains the thoughts, words of advice and gentle encouragement from the luminaries of the literary world, and this edition seems to have a collection of thoughts from a number of the best-known modern day writers; with writers covering each section from the screen writers to theatre writing and naturally, the novelists.
Not only does this book cover writing for newspapers and magazines (and theatre and screen as mentioned above) it also covers getting an agent, approaching publishers, publishing art, photography and just about every other possible area that needs to be covered by writers and artists.

There are sections that cover UK and US copyright law, and other matters of finance that writers and artists will need to know about, but again, this is for the UK based writers, and all NZ writers will have to contact IRD for further advice for the laws in New Zealand; However, there is plenty of information to give the budding professional writer the empowerment needed to tackle the NZ IRD and get relevent answers to the specific questions they may have, rather than not quite knowing what questions to ask.

This is a powerful book in the right hands, the only thing better than this is having a writer friend who can make personal recommedations of your work to the publishing houses.
