I recently had a chance to play with this set at a friend's place, and I tell you, I adore this set! I have a joy for cooking, and though I am not by any means a highly skilled chef or anything, I do like to use good gear to make the process as easy as possible so I can concentrate on the actual food itself. To that end, I have purchased a number of "the only knife you'll ever need" type knives, and the best I have found to date cost me about $12 from Woolworths about 4 years ago.

The only down side to it is that it has a serated edge, making cutting some goods rather tough, such as cheese (where the serations cause the knife to buckle and slice unevenly) and sliced bacon (where they catch on the meat fibres and tear it badly). Roll in this knife set.

OK, I haven't had a chance to play with them all, but those that I have used are stunning. My favourite has to be #10, the cheese knife. I used it to cut perfectly even slices of cheese, and then also shred lettuce, thin carrot sticks, and even slice tomato wafer thin. And all without having to press with any real effort. I was also impressed by the paring knife, which was one of the extra bonus knives, and which I mistook for the utility knife when it came time to do some delicate surgery on a garden hose that had suffered at the fangs of some determined rabbits. It made very short work of a reinforced, multi-cored hose and allowed me to carve off sections of the hose up in no time flat.

Overall, Though I didn't get much opportunity to really explore the full range, I have had a bit of a tinker with at least half, and though some of them seem a bit redundant to me, I can see that in certain circumstances each knife comes into it's own as the perfect one for the job at hand. be aware, you'll make constant use of maybe 4 of them, frequent use of a further 3 or 4, and occasional use of many of them... but you'll undoubtably find you will use each one at least once. And yes... the block comes with steak knives... damn fine steak knives indeed!

This set of beautifully balanced knives is a dream to use. Each knife is comfortable to hold, and has a blade that is razor sharp, which slices cleanly... quite a change from the knives I’m used to!!! It was a pleasant surprise too, to find a couple of extra knives included in the set, and the knife block it comes with is definitely rather handy, especially with each knife being labelled, along with its slot in the block, making it nice and easy to know where each knife goes. The extra slots were great too, meaning I could store a few of my other knives in there as well.
Although at $149, I’d consider it rather pricey, I would definitely say it’s worth the price, especially considering the rather wide variety of knives included in the set!!
